Visual Narrative- Kolesa

Describe: This piece is done in cut paper style. On the left side of the page there is a large pink octopus hooked on a fishing pole. On the right middle of the page there is a grey shark looking at the hooked octopus. On the top right side is a boat. You are only able to view the bottom part of the boat.

Principles: In this piece emphasis is used. There is emphasis on the octopus because is it the largest and brightest part. There is also variety used in this piece for two reasons. There is a big variety in the shapes and sizes of the cut paper. There is also a variety of color used.

Interpret: The piece has two friends in it, the octopus and and shark. The octopus is stuck on the hook, about to be reeled up by fishermen. The shark, Fin is sad to see his friend stuck. As he knows he is seeing his friend for the last time his heart is breaking so that is why there is all the cut paper, to look like something broken.

Strengths and Growths: My strength for this piece is how all the papers cut and separated but you can clearly see the picture. A growth I could have is cutting some of the pieces of paper smaller so there is not largest chunks pasted down.
